Hello Peeps,
Sometimes a simple
newspaper article about another fellow being can change our life. Isn't
it ??
Don't you trust
me??
Here is a
25-Year-old Neha, who is gonna tell us how an incident changed her from an
introvert she was to an outgoing, strong and business woman she is now.
~~~~~~~
I am Neha, 25 years
old. I was an introvert in my childhood. There are several reasons contributing
for my insecurities like I was short, not attractive, a below average student
and on the top of that my father is a well-known figure in the town. I couldn't
dare to go to any functions, never participated in any school events. Can you
believe, I used to pray God to make me a tall girl (Now I laugh at that
innocence).
An incident
happened to me when I was 15 years old, which changed my perception about life.
While going through a newspaper one morning, I found an article about two
sisters who are dwarfs. They are very strong and are very successful in their
career as teachers. Tears started rolling down as I was going through the
article. The only thing I felt after reading that inspirational article is when
the people who are much shorter than me, who came from a very humble family
background can be so successful and strong, why am I feeling inferior and
suffering from such low self-esteem. I got many questions in my mind at that
time; finally, I understood that I was no less to anyone. That was the
last day I cried of my height. Never again I felt bad or low when I was teased
by friends or family.
I have a friend who
is 5’ 6” and yet she used to feel bad of her height. She says that she is an
inch less than the height which she thinks as ‘ideal height’ for a woman.
I’m almost a foot shorter to her but never felt low like her.
There was another
situation that I want to share, we, a group of six friends are walking and my
friend who wanted to tease me said “Neha, look! Everyone is looking at you…
They might be thinking that you are a school kid”. I don’t know how others
would have reacted to such a comment but I said “Isn’t that a great thing! With
a plain face, I couldn’t have dragged any attention… But, now because of my
height, people started noticing me”. Later my friend apologized and said that
he was proud of me.
My height didn't stop me from pursuing dual specialization. I hold an MBA degree from GITAMS and MSc in International Fashion Retailing from the University of Manchester. I am the first woman in my family to study abroad. I am currently looking after my parents business.
I want to say few words to the people who have insecurities/inferiority complexes… There are lots of ways to overcome this.
We’re not different to others! There are millions of people who are facing this issue, there are billions of people who do not have basic things like, food thrice a day, a place to sleep and have friends and family to share feelings with. Compared to them, we are so blessed. (I feel so.)
MAKE FUN OF YOURSELF! Don’t give the chance to others.
If a person teases you, pacify yourself. Example. When some teases me that I’m short, I immediately think that “well, I’m a bright student compared to him”
I’m pretty sure that you all can relate to my situation… If not short maybe because you are lean/fat, not good looking or not rich, etc..
Finally, I want to tell that everyone is perfect in their own way… No one can make you feel bad about yourself without your consent. There are millions of people who are dreaming of having a life like we do, so please be happy and content with what you have.
